Wessex Competitions 2007 Results
The only remaining special rule for Wessex competitions is that coastal
        ridge
runs are excluded (which affects Sean Staines placing in the Go-for-It
        League
      this year).
PARAGLIDING

        in

4. Lemmings Trophy: The longest out-&-return or triangle flight in
        the Club XC
League, with each leg at least 2.5km.
      No entries.
As a club the Wessex entered 30 flights for a total of 791.4km, and were
        10th
        out of 32.
HANG GLIDING
As for the Paragliding Competitions all entries are, or would be, taken
        from
the National XC League website. Unfortunately there have been no entries
        again
this year from Wessex members, at least from those whose primary club
        is
      listed as the Wessex.
Rob Dowdell, whose primary club is the Joint Services but who is also
        a Wessex
member, finished a creditable 12th in the NXCL.

Wessex Competitions 2006 Results
2006 was the first year that the National Paragliding XC League had incorporated the Wessex Club XC League. I believe that the same would be true for hang gliding entries if there had been any. All flights are now entered, distances computed, and results displayed via the respective national web sites.
In these circumstances it makes sense to align our various Wessex XC competitions with their rules, such as allowing 3 turn points (2 for HGs). It also makes sense to limit each League to the 6 best flights as displayed on the Club and National League tables respectively; a reduction on the previous 10 best for the GFI League but this year and historically a reduction to 6 has little effect on the order of the GFI tables, particularly now that there is a 10km rule.
We retain two additional rules: no ridge runs and a 10km minimum for anyone who has bettered 15km in the past. I suggest that we also exclude bonuses for declared goals, at least in the Wessex area; lands end, i.e. Swanage, is too obvious.
Note that flights under 10km are accepted by the pgcomps web site for the club table only. Also note that for club entries no annual fee is payable.
For the 2006 season, which ended on 31 October, the first three in each competition are listed below. For the full results please go to the pgcomps web site.-

HANG GLIDING
There have been no entries this year although Tony Stephens has clocked up an impressive 701.4km in 6 flights (2nd in the National XC League), and those were only his six best. Unfortunately, although Tony is a Wessex member, his flights were entered as a Sky Surfer and none were from Wessex sites. This is a new situation for us and will have to go to the Committee to decide; perhaps an honorary winner rather than an official one.
24 Nov 06:As a reminder that it has not been completely dead on
the local HG XC scene, Matthew Whicher has entered some flights that total
about 160km. Unfortunately these can not be official as they were without
OS coordinates and were all past the 1-month entry deadline. Next year
        maybe...
