Wessex Competitions 2009 Results
The results below are taken straight from the National XC tables except for any flight that happens to infringe our only extra rule that coastal ridge runs are excluded (none was in 2009).
PARAGLIDING
1. Wessex XC League: The total distance of the 6 longest flights entered in the Club XC League, i.e. flights from Wessex sites only.
Paul Hawkins 185.3km, Gary Puhl 163.1km, Shamus Pitts 153.3km
2. Go-for-It League: The total distance of the 6 longest flights entered in the National XC League.
Richard Westgate 261.4 (52nd), Ali Florence 200.6km (68th), Paul Hawkins (83rd) 185.3km
3. Longest flight in the Wessex area: The longest single flight in the Club XC League.
Gary Puhl 42.5km
4. Lemmings Trophy: The longest out-&-return or triangle flight in the Club XC League, with each leg at least 2.5km.
Andy Dawson 29.0km (see note below), Pete Chalmers 9.4km. These are the first-ever Lemmings entries.

As a club the Wessex was 17th out of 30.
HANG GLIDING
Again this year there have been no entries from Wessex members, at least from those whose primary club is listed in the National XC league as the Wessex.
Tony Stephens, a Wessex member whose primary club is the Sky Surfers, finished 3rd in the NXCL, and Rob Dowdell, a Wessex member whose primary club is the Joint Services, finished 5th.
