Although the wind was on the strong side, I managed an hours' soaring at Ringstead this Saturday - no other pilots were there! My first HG flight for a year & a lucky one to boot 'cos the sun came out, I climbed at will to around a grand ATO, described a nice OLC triangle of 6.5 km and managed to land and pack up before the rain arrived.... Goodie!

Decided on Ballard. The only person there besides walkers and cyclists. Decided on a flight westwards for an adventure and managed to make it to a small hill fort behind Bowlease. The flight was exciting and nearly decked several times. Crossing the valley from the back ridge to Kimmeridge and Gadd cliff, exciting as was the transition from the se face of Ringstead to the Whitehorse ridge. But the conditions had deteriorated as I beat up and down the White horse and looked across at the pilots flying up and down Bowlease, they were not that high. Tried the bowl and picked a small thermal up, but with the high tension power lines coming up and the clearance inadequate, I chickened out, the glide forward saw me decked.

Enjoyed the challenge and the scenery, although not a great distance.

Knocked off a little earlier than usual and arrived at Ringstead for an evening flight. Seb, Angus and Ben being the only fliers there and apparently had flown down to Bowlease. Took off after the 20 min rig and flew down to Gadd cliff then back down to cross the pub at Osmington when it started to spit with rain. So flew back and packed up. As I picked up enough height on the main ridge to fly back to the landing field, I Saw Seb disappearing down the coast southwards.
