Report from Ringstead

Well now, the runes looked good the night before, so I submitted a CANP, on the day informed Portland Heliops and Coastguard.
On arrival wind was 25mph on T.O. one lone PG on the cliffs and 4 HGs rigging, Oh No! After 90 mins Dale A came in and landed in the back field (empty of beasts). Many more Pilots arriving, and some measuring the wind at 15-26mph. It slowly started to ease and off went the boys on Enzos and Seb on his Boom Boom.
We headed over but some were going to the beach. The cliffs were definetly up & down with some rotor. 20 mins and I watched more heading to the beach so I anded on the old T.O. I waited and was joined by Mark S from Avon and after teaching him the 'Dark Arts', we launched in to very strange conditions. I recognised the wind had shifted to SSE and suffered a 40% collapse on the nearside to cliffs, one pump and it was out. Time to head back, Mark & I landed below T.O.
Not the most thrilling of days but the KGs enjoyed themselves.

Report from Ringstead

There early birds took advantage of some strong conditions and changing wind direction.
Interesting skies and at times full bar required. Good to see Pilots practising "Big Ears" and landing at appropriate times.
I had submitted CANP and rightly so as when I was in the air I took a call from the Booking Cell to warn of 6+ Helicopters intending to be flying close to cliffs after 1100hrs. One left playing on the ridge on a mini-wing when we left.

Monday 22nd March and what a start to the week. Spoilt for choice of sites to visit I plumbed for my local site at Barton on sea and so glad I did. From 1200 the wind came right and several tracks out to Milford and back to Friers cliff were made with Gary Puhl witnessing a cliff fall near to taddiford gap. Lots of height gained and by mid afternoon it was nearly game over for the full size wings as the wind strength increased to 20 mph. A nice time to get out the mini wings and a good hour was had. As the wind started to drop by late afternoon a couple of full size wings grabbed what was left of the lift until eventually the wind direction swung well to the west. Overall a fantastic carry on to a few days of food flying.

Report from Ringstead

A little top end air times but very pleasant for several Pilots.
Shame I had to stay local for Dentist, looked like others had a great time at Bell.
At least the sun was shining.

Report by Phill Brolan

What another surprise Bell Hill threw up again on Saturday 20th. After a light start it turned out to be a very buoyant day right into the evening with several getting out to the towers at Bullbarrow and even around to the Bowl near to Okeford. Good height gains for all including a mini wing and several low air timers were up amongst the rest of us and you could see their smiles a mile off. If this is the start of the season I can't wait for summer.

Report from Bell Hill

A gloomy looking day. However, it proved to be buoyant for most of the day.
Lots of wings in the air some new some old, bit like the Pilots.
Some chose Marleycombe or Swallowcliffe to avoid the crowds.
Lots of happy Pilots.

Report from Maiden Castle

An up and down couple of hours at Maiden Castle, 4 in the air at times with one LAT G/H in the landing field.
At one stage a helicopter was flying straight at us from the S then spotted us and turned back..
2 days flying a row, whatever next?

Report from Bell Hill

(St Patricks Day) A solid air thermic day at Bell with many Pilots chancing their arm. So many new Delta 4s? Pleasant introduction to thermalling in 2021 with 90 minutes airtime, some making the Aerials Others heading in a S.Easterly direction. Obviously many Pilots furloughed from work? Happy days, shame couldn't celebrate with a Guiness.

Report from Ringstead

Lockdown Breakout New wings and new Pilots on the cliffs today, slow start but waited 3 long months to get back in the air, couple made the cliffs the day before. However, today was a good day, congratulations to Rene J for his maiden flight to the cliffs on a highly suitable Gin Atlas in lime green.
Robin W testing his spanking Delta 4, Angus throwing his Racer about and good to see Seb taking pleasure in throwing his Boomerang around the sky. Derek tempting fate soooo low almost touching the beach but scratching back up. So many happy smiley faces.

Barton-On-Sea: What a surprise the weather had in store for us all today after nearly three months of lockdown the wind was looking to be too light for any serious flying but how wrong was that? Only speaking for Barton pilots but we had a great day from around 1230 getting good height, lots of lift and distance stretching to the white house at milford to nearly jumping the gap at Chewton. With no incidents and good social distancing we even managed a line or two of kumbaya. A great welcome back.
